"Not just a program, but a movement..."

THE 2025 REGIONAL MOBILISATION SUMMIT

The 2025 Regional Mobilisation Summit, hosted by Goulburn Murray Community Leadership (GMCL), brought together community leaders, organisations and skilled individuals from across the Goulburn Murray to celebrate and strengthen grassroots, community-led change.

Held on 8 October 2025 at Parklake Shepparton, the Summit focused on this year’s theme:
“Celebrating What Is Working – the connections, actions and community-led initiatives already driving meaningful change.”

Facilitated by Make A Change Australia and Scott Ko, the day combined local case studies, facilitated discussions and interactive workshops designed to move communities from conversation to action. Participants explored how ideas can be clarified, resourced and mobilised into practical initiatives that strengthen local governance, volunteerism and collaboration.

The Summit was directly informed by insights gathered through GMCL’s Community Action Network (CAN) work, funded by FRRR. In the lead-up to the event, GMCL travelled across the region delivering Resilience Canopy Training and hosting Insight Sessions in multiple towns. These conversations captured lived experiences, highlighted strengths and challenges, and surfaced practical ideas for action — all of which shaped the Summit’s agenda.

The Summit:

  • Highlighted successful community-led initiatives already creating impact across the region

  • Strengthened connections between organisations, leaders and grassroots groups

  • Identified practical experiments and actions to be tested over the next 12 months

  • Encouraged participants to contribute their skills, networks and leadership to local priorities

Importantly, the day produced clear next steps, with participants committing to ongoing collaboration and shared accountability.

The Regional Mobilisation Summit Post-Summit Report captures:

  • Key themes and reflections from participants

  • What’s working well across the region

  • Gaps and opportunities for future collaboration

  • Mobilisation pathways and proposed community experiments
